Summer is filled with cookouts and nights out with friends, which can mean lots of fun, but high calorie drinks. No one wants to skip out on the drinks all together, but there are plenty of ways to avoid ending up with a beer belly by sticking with low-calorie cocktails. There’s a pretty nice selection of low calorie beer available today, but a tasty, low calorie cocktail suits the season and packs a little more punch too!
Whether you’re mixing your own drinks at home or ordering them at a bar, mixing with diet soda is a quick, easy way to cut calories. Vodka and sprite may be an old college favorite, but you can dress it up by replacing it with Fresca, a diet soda, and adding a slice of lemon or lime.
Martinis come in every shape and size, and as you probably expect they do not all have the same caloric content. Martinis loaded with sugary fruit juice can add up calories very fast. Using fresh squeezed juice for your martini is a great way to add flavor sans calories. Try to steer clear of any creamy or chocolaty martinis as they obviously are much heavier.
Another cocktail favorite is the G &T. Any clear liquor mixed with tonic water will keep you in a reasonable calorie range. Believe it or not, good ol’ bubbly doesn’t contain very many calories either, despite how delicious it is. Enjoy a glass or two of champagne with the girls and you won’t feel like you have to spend the whole next day at the gym.
These are just a few cocktail options that will help you cut the calories this summer. If you just truly prefer beer to liquor or wine, a few popular low calorie options include Michelob Ultra or Budweiser Select. The problem with beer is no matter how light it is, after about 3 or 4 you’ll probably start feeling a little bloated. If I know it’s going to be a beer night for me, I always wear a body shaper to keep my tummy looking slim all night. Womens body shapers fit discreetly under any outfit and you won’t have to worry about looking a size bigger halfway through the night.
