Summer is full of fun, flirty fashion and plenty of excitement as the temperatures climb. With the warm weather set in, you’ll probably be spending more and more time outdoors. The heat of summer requires that you change up your makeup patterns a little bit to avoid runny, messy makeup.
1. Waterproof mascara is a must! I personally prefer waterproof mascara year round, but it’s essential for the summer months. Whether its an impromptu pool party or just the heat of the summer causing some perspiration, regular mascara doesn’t stand a chance against the grueling heat of summer. With waterproof mascara you’ll keep those luscious lashes all day long.
2. During the summer, your base layer makeup is the most important part of your routine. To avoid eye makeup creases, an eyelid primer like Benefit’s lemon aid is the perfect solution. In general, primer for your whole face is a good idea, as it will keep your makeup in place so your face doesn’t melt off by noon.
3. Shimmer shadows! As you’ll probably be spending a lot of time outside in the bright sunlight, a great way to catch the eye is with shimmer shadows and blush. When the light hits your skin you’ll be the picture of summer. While you can find shimmer eye shadows in practically any color, for this time of year, it’s best to stick with the lighter hues such as pink, light blue, silver, etc.
4. From about May to September, consider oil blotting wipes your best friend. These miracle workers should always have a place in your bag. Anytime you’re feeling a little extra oily, you can blot off your skin for a smooth, radiant complexion, and they won’t smudge your makeup!
5. The last, but most important summer makeup tip is to remember less is more. This is not the season for heavy, caked-on makeup. Light, sheer makeup is much more seasonal. Go very easy on the foundation and stick to light powder blushes. This is also a good time to let your natural beauty show. Once you’ve shed that winter white look and got a touch of color, you’ll be amazed how much easier it is to just swipe on some mascara and lip gloss and consider yourself ready.
